Taste of the Vine at Historic Blenheim
This harvest time event supports restoration of Historic Blenheim, a nationally recognized site of the best preserved Civil War “graffiti”.

Second Sunday Museum Programs
Programs are held at 2 p.m. on the second Sunday of each month. Unless otherwise noted, programs are held at the Fairfax Museum and Visitor Center, 10209 Main Street. Free.
- September 11 — “Breaking News: Breaking Down,” a presentation by Mike Walker of his award-winning film about journalists’ reaction to news stories. (Please note: this event will be held at the Stacy C. Sherwood Community Center, 3740 Old Lee Highway.)
- October 9 — Curator’s tour of the exhibition Fairfax in 1861: First Seat of the American Civil War.
- November 13 — “Arlington National Cemetery,” illustrated talk by Brad Berger and Michael Kelly, National Park Service historians.
- December 11 — “The Banjo in the Civil War,” performance and talk by Greg Adams, historian and musicologist.

- The Military Bugle during the Civil War and the Origin of the Call “Taps”
2 p.m. October 29
By the end of the Civil War, the bugle was the primary signaling instrument in the United States military. Jari Villanueva, a foremost authority on “Taps,” will demonstrate many of the bugle calls and explain their use during the war. He also will discuss the origin of the famous calls, performance practices and the myths associated with it. - Lead Like a General
2 p.m. November 19
Lead Like a General by author Paul Gilbert combines the best in modern research on leadership with real life examples of historical figures from the American Civil War. This book shows how the research on leadership styles, organizational structure, brain dominance and other related fields can be seen in the actions of these historical figures. Gilbert is Executive Director of the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority and is adjunct faculty at George Mason University. - Christmas in Camp
Noon to 4 p.m. December 4
Find out what Christmas was like for those at warn Camp with the 17th Virginia Infantry (Historic Blenheim). Visit a Civil War camp during winter and learn about holiday customs from re-enactors from 17th Va. Infantry, Co. D, "Fairfax Rifles".
