The
Mission
To promote and encourage the
appreciation for, and preservation of, the history and artifacts of the
City of Fairfax as an experience central to the lives of the community.
The
Partnership
City of Fairfax and
Historic Fairfax City; Inc. (HFCI)
In 1981 the City Council appointed five citizens as directors to form
an organization that would assist the City staff with historic matters.
By 1983 HFCI was incorporated as a non-profit organization and today the
Board of Directors consists of 21 persons who serve as an advocacy group
in close cooperation with the City's Director of Historic Resources.
The functions of the organization include:
- Developing an awareness among
the citizens and within the business community and local government
of the value of local history and the importance of its preservation
- Cultivating public support
for the preservation and restoration of historic buildings and artifacts
- Offering advice and counsel
regarding historic
matters
- Recommending policies for
use and operation
of the historic buildings and sites
- Assisting in promotion of
historically-oriented events and educational programs
- Seeking and applying for
state, federal and
private funding for preservation projects
- Recruiting volunteers to
support programs
and events
