Confederate
Memorial Day
1915
| A gentleman gets his photograph taken at the Marr Monument on the grounds of the Fairfax Courthouse. In Fairfax, Confederate Memorial Day was traditionally celebrated annually on June 1st to commemorate the day Capt. John Quincy Marr became the first Confederate officer to die at the hands of the enemy in 1861. At the edge of the road, the tracks for the electric trolley, the Washington, Alexandria & Falls Church Railway, can be seen terminating at the base of the telephone pole. The trolley had reached Fairfax in 1904. |
