Ford Building
1935
| Built in 1835, this was the home of Confederate spy, Antonia Ford and her family. It still stands on Chain Bridge Road (Rt. 123) but without the porches and bushes. Antonia was imprisoned following Rebel Ranger John Mosby's capture of Union Brig. General Edwin H. Stoughton on the night of March 9, 1863. Her release was orchestrated by Union Major Joseph Clapp Willard, the former Provost Marshal at Fairfax Court House. Major Willard had fallen in love with Miss Ford and they were eventually married. |
