Layton Hall

A view of Layton Hall, the Fairfax home of Joseph E. Willard, the only son of Union Major Joseph C. and Antonia Ford Willard. The spacious grounds were always open to the locals for fishing, swimming, strolling, sledding and playing football in a park-like setting. In 1972, the beautiful site was sold, the home destroyed and the property eventually developed. Today, the area includes a 10-acre shopping center with pavement over almost 95 percent of the site. A major grocery chain's store approximately occupies the location of the Willard mansion.
