Career Highlights
I began my career as a legislative adviser to two different congressman from Wisconsin. I went on to serve as senior staff to the Administrator of the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration, appointed to my position by President George W. Bush.
I left government service for the private sector, where I worked in a variety of public affairs roles for Exxon Mobil Corporation at its Fairfax, VA headquarters.
When Exxon Mobil closed its Fairfax office, I returned to the world of ocean management and conservation as a lobbyist for the non-profit Ocean Conservancy. I advocated primarily for policy solutions addressing the growing plastic pollution crisis at both the federal and state level.
I eventually left Ocean Conservancy to work Nestle USA, where I lobbied both federal and state governments for sustainable packaging and waste management policies.
When did you join the HFCI Board?
March 2024
What HFCI activities have you participated in/enjoyed most?
None yet, but very much looking forward to contributing to the Board’s mission.
What other volunteer activities do you participate in?
I periodically volunteer at Food for Others, as well as both my kids’ schools.
I’ve also served on my HOA board, as both president and simple board member.
What interests you about the history of our community?
I’m not from here originally, but I love history and this area. Northern Virginia and Fairfax, particularly, has played such a central part in the history of the United States. Driving around the area, you see historic buildings, markers for historic events and people, and all sorts of other noteworthy parts of our history. How could I NOT be interested?
Why should citizens of the City of Fairfax become members of HFCI?
History is such an important teacher but as the years continue to pass, it becomes harder to maintain a connection to our history. An organization like HFCI plays an important role in ensuring our community maintains its connection to our history – the good and the bad – so that we never forget the lessons that have been learned along the way.
